West Pittston Physician Elected Second Vice President of the American Osteopathic Association

(CHICAGO) – Ernest R. Gelb, of West Pittston, Pa., w​as elected as second vice president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) at the organization’s recent annual business meeting in Chicago.

“Serving the AOA as second vice president is truly an honor,” says Dr. Gelb. “I am proud to represent an organization that sincerely cares for osteopathic physicians and their patients.”

Professional Background

Dr. Gelb is an AOA board-certified family physician and a member of the Intermountain Medical Group and a staff member of Wilkes Barre General Hospital. He also has been the secretary and treasurer of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society (POFPS) since 2000 and has served the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association in numerous capacities, including as past president and chairman of the family practices committee. In addition, he has served as the chairman of the marketing and public relations committee for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

In 2010, Dr. Gelb received the POFPS Family Physician of the Year Award.

Education

After receiving his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1978, Dr. Gelb completed postdoctoral training at the Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich.
