DO placements in 2024 NRMP Match reach all-time high
The American Osteopathic Association is pleased to announce that a record high number of 7,705 osteopathic medical students and past DO graduates matched into year 1 (PGY-1) residency positions through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). This number reflects a 92.3% match rate for the 8,033 DO seniors who participated, a 0.7% increase from last year.

U.S.-trained DOs gain global recognition
The International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA) approved a resolution today to support the recognition of U.S.-trained DOs as fully licensed physicians equivalent to MDs in 47 IAMRA member countries during its 15th biennial Members General Assembly in Bali, Indonesia. The resolution was jointly submitted by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the Oregon Medical Board, and seconded by the Association of Medical Councils of Africa, whose 20 member countries passed a similar resolution in 2019.

Record-breaking NRMP Match produces 7,132 new DO residents
Breaking records from all previous matches, the 2023 National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) matched 7,132 osteopathic medical students and past DO graduates into postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) residency positions. Reaching another all-time high, 91.6% of the 7,436 participating DO students matched into residency programs in 37 specialties.

AOA installs Ernest R. Gelb, DO, as 126th President
Ernest R. Gelb, DO, FACOFP, an AOA board-certified osteopathic family medicine specialist and geriatrician from Lewes, Delaware, has been installed as the 126th president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The inauguration took place during the AOA’s Annual House of Delegates Meeting held this July in Chicago.

An all-time high total of 7,049 osteopathic medical students and past DO graduates matched into postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) residency positions through the 2022 National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match.
