J. Blake Casher, DO, is an AOA board-certified psychiatrist in private practice in Okemos, Mich., with added qualifications in geriatric psychiatry through the American Psychiatric Association. He also is an associate clinical professor in the psychiatry department at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing. In addition, he is a fellow of the American College of Neurologists and Psychiatrists.
Dr. Casher has lectured throughout the country and has been interviewed by local radio and television stations in the Lansing, Mich. area and by newspapers nationally about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, depression, seasonal depression, attention deficit disorder and other psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry issues.
After receiving his osteopathic medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, Dr. Casher completed a rotating internship at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich. He did his psychiatry residency followed by a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He has extensive experience consulting in nursing homes and served more than 10 years as a medical director and treating psychiatrist at a Geriatric Psychiatric In-Patient Unit in Lansing. Dr. Casher recently completed his governor-appointed term on the State of Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. He also has served as an expert witness in legal cases involving competency and dementia.
