A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and the American College of Chest Physicians, Joseph A. Giaimo, DO, is an AOA board-certified internist and pulmonologist in private practice in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He also serves as clinical assistant professor at the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Dr. Giaimo has presented seminars about lung cancer, sleep apnea, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary embolism for the American Lung Association. He also has discussed women's health issues and lung cancer for the American Cancer Society. In addition, Dr. Giaimo frequently serves as an expert on these topics for his local CBS and ABC television affiliates.
Active at the state and national levels, Dr. Giaimo serves as a member of the AOA Board of Trustees and is a past president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. In 2008, he was appointed to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Practicing Physicians Advisory Council, providing input on how CMS rules affect practicing physicians.
Dr. Giaimo earned his osteopathic medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete a rotating internship at Metropolitan Hospital – Central Division in Philadelphia where he served as chief intern, and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford.
