Stephen M. Scheinthal, DO, is an AOA board-certified psychiatrist who is currently serving as the associate director and chief of geriatric behavioral health at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine's (UMDNJ-SOM) New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging in Stratford, where he provides outpatient and long-term care services to the elderly. Dr. Scheinthal is also the medical director of Arden Courts, an Alzheimer's disease assisted living facility in Cherry Hill, N.J., and co-medical director of the Behavioral Management Unit at Silver Care Center in Cherry Hill. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Scheinthal is an associate professor of psychiatry at UMDNJ-SOM.
Dr. Scheinthal has published research in leading scientific journals, including the Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology, has discussed geriatric mental health both on radio and television, and has delivered more than 100 lectures and presentations. He is also the recipient of the Geriatric Academic Career Award from the Health Resources and Services Administration and has been recognized as a "Top Doc" in geriatric psychiatry by both South Jersey Magazine and Philadelphia Magazine.
After graduating with a degree in osteopathic medicine from UMDNJ-SOM, Dr. Scheinthal completed his internship at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospitals-University Medical Center in Stratford, N.J. He then completed a residency in psychiatry and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship, both at UMDNJ-SOM.
