CHICAGO, Sept. 21, 2017 – Arianna Huffington is the keynote speaker at OMED 17, the premier educational conference for osteopathic physicians and health professionals focused on whole person, patient-centered care. The four-day event will be held October 7-10 in Philadelphia.

Huffington, the founder of Huffington Post and author of Thrive and The Sleep Revolution, will discuss the importance of building resilience into daily life. Named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People and one of Forbes’ Most Powerful Women in the World, Huffington champions a new definition of success–one that focuses not only on career advancement, but also on the equally important goals of personal well-being and fulfillment.

OMED is the American Osteopathic Association’s annual medical education conference and is designed to help the nation’s 129,000 osteopathic physicians (DOs) and medical students bring osteopathic principles and practices to their patients and colleagues. The osteopathic philosophy of medicine encourages physicians to partner with patients to help them get healthy and stay well, recognizing the importance of the physician-patient relationship in delivering good outcomes. Attendees receive up to 32 hours of continuing medical education (CME) credit.

On Sunday, activist, YouTube personality and author Claire Wineland, who was born with cystic fibrosis, will address the conference. As founder of the Clairity Project and Claire’s Place Foundation, Wineland helps caregivers and the public better understand the needs of patients and families coping with chronic illness.

A panel discussion focused on reimagining physician training and partnerships to create healthier communities will feature Jay Bhatt, DO, American Hospital Association chief medical officer; Jeff Morgan, DO, dean, A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona;, and Joe Wilkins, MBA, chief transformation officer for Atlantic Health System.

Other featured speakers include:

  • Italo Subbarao, DO – Dr. Subbarao will demonstrate the latest iteration of an emergency medical drone designed to quickly connect physicians with patients following a natural disaster or mass casualty incident.

  • Kim Pfotenhauer, DO – Dr. Pfotenhauer will offer insights from her groundbreaking research, including the essential role vitamin D plays in cell growth modulation, immune function and inflammation reduction.

  • Tyree Winters, DO – An expert in pediatric obesity and weight management, Dr. Winters will provide an interactive demonstration of the “Hip Hop with a Doc” dance class he designed to inspire kids to be more active.

One-day tickets and conference general admission will be available throughout the event.
